I Amaze Myself…

Mar 10 2008

Published by Squirrel under out there, ugh!

Wow!

I am truly in awe of my own power. I am actually capable of connecting to the Power and Energy of this here oh-so-mysterious Universe. Those Secret folks really weren’t shitting me.
I single handedly, from where I lay, incapacitated with nasty sickly bug, on my lovely ever so comfy and cozy sofa, through a direct, albeit completely unconscious connection to The Source. The Creator. The AllPowerfulEnergy. Stymied air traffic through the mid-west… delaying travel from Houston to Calgary, Sunday morning to today, at midnight. Thereby cancelling the travel plans of HIS family. OMG! Until now, I have been completely unaware of the power I am able to weild.

OK. How ’bout a million bucks instead of the unfortunate cancellation of long held travel plans of lovely relatives?!?!

Note to self: Must use powers for good instead of evil.

Blick…

Mar 07 2008

Published by Squirrel under ugh!

The basement is done. At least what needed done for the arrival of Texas Cousins. This, the first round of American guests we will be hosting this month. There will be more needed done in the week between visitors. But, for now the construction end is complete.

Now for the organizing, tidying, cleaning portion of this project.

But not right now. I blew my proverbial wad, installing all new mouldings this morning. Now. I’m on the couch. I’ve had a bath in an effort to dislodge sawdust from backs of ears and other extraneous cavities. Now. I’m just tired. Tired. Like hit by a truck. Or by the prospect of two more days of complete shitty grind.

I’m fighting something.  Some bug has taken hold that, thankfully, hasn’t got me completely flattened, but is hanging on for it’s dear parasitic life.

And the sun is shining. I was gonna take this gang skiing. But I just can’t. I can see the mountain from my place here on the couch. And I can see the mostly cloudless sky. And the sun.

And I cannot. And I will not. Leave this couch. For now.

There’s a birthday party tonite. A neighbor girl’s eighth. It’s also a little parental bender. Any other day I would be looking forward to it. We don’t throw many party birthday’s now that kids are in school.

I won’t be going. Now, I will sleep. When family departs for party. I will descend once again into household preparation for HIS family. Our guests. Who will remain blissfully clueless as to what was necessary to get this house in any condition to entertain for more than one evening.  Making sure everyone, two full grown adults and two full grown teenage boys, has a tidy, clean place to sleep in this painfully small, indubitably shrinking, little cottage house.

Oh, God. I have to end this before I make myself nauseaus on top of just plain shitty. Just have a friggin’ snooze for Chrissakes! A snooze with the lovely Fidge nestled in my armpit. Ariel in the background. And the faint rumblings from downstairs… boys, machine gun fire, death… ugh. X-Box. Jeeeesssusss.  Turn it down!
Sleep. Sleep. Now.

Fully Laminated!

Mar 05 2008

Published by Squirrel under homey, it's all about me, dammit, jeez! i'm glad that's over!

Yeeee-haawww! There were three of us. Praise be to the Creative Energy Throughout. I don’t know what this job would have been with just one. But there were three of us.

Me. Myself. And I.

Husband? Contributed two measley piddly filler bits in the closet. Then the phone. A neighbor. All of a sudden stack of logs laying out in yard for past three years needed to be bucked. Today. Immediately. A mere three days before the arrival of HIS relations. He just had to “buck wood”. Today. Now. Hmmm-mmmmm….

Bucking wood? The equivalent of a blue haired koffee klatch. All afternoon. Instead of koffee: chainsaws and beer. Better have been beer….

I laid the laminate flooring throughout the basement.  It’s doooonnnnnnnnnne!!
Thanks to the invaluable assistance of Me and Myself, of course. They’re lifesavers, really.

They always come through when I need them.

WFMW- Backwards Edition

Mar 05 2008

Published by Squirrel under wfmw

I need some good ideas for culling baby clothes. I thought I had a pretty good handle on it.

But really… nope.

I currently have four legal sized file boxes full, with nowhere really to store them. I’ve compromised and sent some things to my sister (with the caveat she return the cutest ones). When I do muster up the emotional energy to go through them I find myself oozing like a total sentimental sap overwhelmed and see every stained little onesie or outfit- girl or boy- as completely impossible to pry from my shaking hands adorable and so very difficult to part with.

There’s always the possibility menopause isn’t just right around the corner I might need them again, after all.

Not Good Busy…

The Texas Cousins are coming! The Texas Cousins are coming!

And so… despite my efforts of last November in preparation for the American Out- I mean, In-Laws, all gung-ho, getting this house decontaminated and exterminated prepared, wanting to do everything from laminate floor the basement to replacing our kitchen island, I settled for taking from Peter (guest room) to give to Paul (future bedroom of Fidge). Essentially shuffling our perpetually accumulating and unused shit from one room to another.

So, we begin again. Except this time it involves the transitioning from our cozy, albeit undersized room up here, to a larger one, nearer the boys, down there. But first… laminate flooring must be installed. New moldings installed. Thorough clean up and reorganization as belongings are transitioned upstairs and down. Over and over again.

Between now, today… Tuesday. And Saturday.

I’ve known these people are coming since last October.

What the hell happened?

Ziiiiiiiiippppppp………….

A tremendous weekend… consumed by skiing. In a good way.

Saturday was our usual ski day, with the boys in Nancy Green, preparing for the Zone Finals in Golden next day, Sunday.

Typically, Fidgey and I spend our Saturdays alternating between the warmth and creamy comfort of hot chocolate in the lodge and screeching like banshees as we putt-putt down the bunny slope. This day. This day. This day was… blissfully different.

1. It was warm enough to be without jackets and mitts.

2. Sky was huge, glorious with no clouds. Only delicious, warm sun.

3. Fidge skiied alone. No harness. No me. Her own two legs. Her own very happy self.

4. Dad spelled me. I got to ski alone on real adult runs. Many times!

5. It’s a 15 minute trip up the chair. I sat ALONE. I stretched out. Sun. Burned. Aaaaahhhhhh. As good as any pool chair at a Mexican resort!

********************

Sunday. Repeat. Today we wake up at the Ramada in Golden. It’s cold. But clear, clear. Perfect day. The boys are geared for races. Who knows what will become of the Fidge.

Sun beams. It gets perfect warm. Fidge conquers chair. Twice. Screeches on the Magic Carpet. For her entertainment and my annoy-ment only.

Boys achieve personal bests with Zip winning silver in the Invitational portion of race (includes Calgary team); wins gold in the Zone. Of all the five year old ski racers- that would be 8- from Fernie to Revelstoke, Zip is the fastest. Whoooooo-oooooooooooooooooooooo!

Unfortunately we had to hear about the first place finish over the phone while sitting in line at the Drive Thru. We thought all the awards had been given out. Clueless, though tired, parents had no idea there was another category of awards to be had. Talk daddy down. Aaaaaaaaaaarggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhh!
Sally was incredibly gracious about his brothers wins. A fantastic brother.

Keep on going, and the chances are that you will stumble on something, perhaps when you are least expecting it. I never heard of anyone ever stumbling on something sitting down. -Charles Kettering

As a single footstep will not make a path on the earth, so a single thought will not make a pathway in the mind. To make a deep physical path, we walk again and again.
