Best Shot Monday: To Desaturate or Not To Desaturate….
That has surely been the question bouncing around between the various voices in my head lately.
My stripping images of all but the slightest tinge of colour has reached OCD proportions recently, whether they be kid, client, or otherwise.
So, as I continue to explore this inner conflict, sucking colour from every image before me, and as I wait for the passing of yet another phase in my life in photographs, I present my Best Shot Monday…. desaturated… and not.
A Little Sparkle

love those sparkles. i like the first image; it highlights the sparkles best.
yeah…i have the same struggle…i think in this one i really like the desaturated one this time. it is a little easier to make out her body, and megan is right - it does highlight the sparkles a little bit more.
Hmmm…I realize it won’t help you overcome your obsession with desaturation, but I agree - the dreamy, whimsical nature to the desaturated version makes it my favorite. I can almost imagine some little fairy wings on her!
I do like them both, but totally LOVE the second one. The color of her hair is still very fairy like.
Gorgeous shot…both ways
I’m for the second one. I think you loose her body in the first one. Have fun experimenting.
I love the second one! The color of hair really pops out and the sparkles in the water are great. Makes me think a fairy might arrive any moment.
This is always my dilemma as well. I can never decide which way I like a picture. There’s something about that first one that seems magical, but the second one is very lovely as well.
I am a huge fan of desaturation too. The photos just seem timeless…
I love them both… but the second one is better!
I am amazed at how much I like the desaturated photos…I followed your links, and I love every single one of them! I do not have that editing ability, or else I would be addicted too! Both shots are lovely, but I like the first one best.
oh yeah, its hard to figure out what to do with pictures…I like the desat in this one!!!
I like the 2nd one. Great angle. I love the sparkly reflections in the water, too.
I think that they’re both nice pictures, but like the second one better. The first one is just a little too monochromatic.
Ok. 1. You’re an amazing photographer.
2. I like the second one because of her hair color but the first one would look great in a frame. Helpful, I know.
What to do, what to do? I really like the second one. Beautiful shot. This weekend, my entire clan headed off to the studio my daughter manages to get family photos taken. Lots of fun, until it came to selecting the colour. Full colour, black & white, sepia, mocha….mocha? Actually mocha is very nice. But we had multiple poses, so which shot looked best in which colour? It was exhausting!
these are heavenly but I like the desaturated treatment. bravo sister!
love the desaturated one! I use this often. I am getting ready to open up my Etsy shop and was looking through other photos for sale-I think the sharpening technique is way over used! As well as the saturation-but the desaturation is refreshing!! And dreamy!!
