Passion. Vision. Change.

Jun 03 2008

Published by Squirrel under misc-y-llaneous

Obama wins the delegates. We, encircling our 19″ toob with bated breath in our little Canadian Rocky Mountain cottage house, are pleased.

Passion. Vision. Change.

What we crave and embrace in this, the new potential leader of neighbors to the south. A most liberal candidate. for all intents and purposes, downright Canadian in his views. Up until the these last few years, quite unAmerican to be honest (married to an American, I have earned right to be honest in matters American). UnAmerican in his unabashed liberalness. Certainly from the perspective of those of us who have existed towards the lefternmost end of the spectrum for much of our days and watched our neighbors habitually wandering the opposing nether regions of said spectrum.

Interesting however, I doubt that without the bungling, bumbling, lies, deception, ignorance, incompetence, corruption and rampant spending and waste of the previous eight years, I don’t think this particular nation would consider such an alternative. Such a liberal alternative.

On a personal level… those same elements we are relieved to see in a very viable presidential candidate… we look for in our own lives. In our own days. In our own moments.

Passion. Vision. Change.

Particularly now, as we anticipate the transition from steady, reliable, delightfully predictable paycheque, to the unsteady and unpredictable of staying true to ourselves. Pursuing that which fills us. Fulfills us. Energizes us. That which is worth offering the precious hours, days, months and years of our lives.

In a time where uncertainty reigns supreme, we are preparing ourselves to embrace the unknown.

Without killing each other or ourselves.

I mumbled as I listened to Obama speak earlier this evening, after perusing news broadcast after news broadcast, most- if not all- of the news bad, “God, I wouldn’t want to take on the Presidency right now.”

But upon reflection, as with our own personal experience, working to embrace and pursue passion, vision and change; and despite the doubts, struggles and challenges ahead we trust that the rewards are great. We approach it with the confidence in knowing that what exists this very moment is great.

I see how a man such as Barack Obama, despite being keenly aware that the challenges and obstacles before him are formidable, he must rest in the knowing also that in striving for, and implementing, passion, vision, change… the rewards are great.

The American people need something to be excited about. And, from those of us north of the border: Congratulations Democrats!

Oh… and don’t fuck this up!

Oogie…

That best describes my feeling about children’s images taken from parenting blog posts being used without permission for advertising and promotion. I’m new to blogging and as yet have not posted any images of my kids, though as a photographer I kept saying that it’s something I must get to soon. I think not. Upon reflection, I really don’t want pictures of my children out there for everyone and anyone to see. Best case scenario is the images are used without permission for advertising purposes; worst case scenario some creepoid is keeping tabs just for the purposes of ogling children- ewww! So, bottom line, my blog will not include pictures of the family and I will probably back track and give everyone nicknames, too.

Someone made the point about GoogleEarth and being able to look into my backyard. I will be one of those trying to blog and not make known from where I am blogging…

Too bad.  And supremely creepy…

Keep on going, and the chances are that you will stumble on something, perhaps when you are least expecting it. I never heard of anyone ever stumbling on something sitting down. -Charles Kettering

Most of our obstacles would melt away if, instead of cowering before them, we should make up our minds to walk boldly through them. -Orison Swett Marden

Think of yourself as on the threshold of unparalleled success. whole, clear, glorious life lies before you. Achieve! Achieve! - Andrew Carnegie

As a single footstep will not make a path on the earth, so a single thought will not make a pathway in the mind. To make a deep physical path, we walk again and again. To make a deep mental path, we must think over and over the kind of thoughts we wish to dominate our lives. -Henry David Thoreau
