Gaw-wd

Feb 04 2008

Published by Squirrel under 'nuggle and 'tories, all about 'dese kids...

It’s fuzzy for me.  However in the wee hours of bed time, in the mind of a perfectly clever three- oh so close to four year old- it is perfectly clear.

“Who makes peopoh?”

“Mummies and daddies make people.  Just like mummy and daddy made you.”

“Noooooo…… Gaw-wd makes evwybody”

“Where does he make them?”

“In a daw-wk, daw-wk cave.  Whewh it’s all daw-wkness.  Up, up in da highhhhh-est mountain.”

“How does he get the babies to the mummies and daddies?”

“He fwies wif none wings. Wif none wings! He fwies and fwies until he sees mummies and daddies.”

Of course.

We are so enjoying The Spiderwick Chronicles!

The Spiderwick Chronicles (Boxed Set): The Field Guide; The Seeing Stone; Lucinda's Secret; The Ironwood Tree; The Wrath of Mulgrath Guga-roo has to be kept from gnawing off his little fingernails in some places but they are LOVING it!  We are just about to begin Book 3.  We just began a few days ago!

Bedtime Stories

Nov 26 2007

Published by Squirrel under 'nuggle and 'tories, all about 'dese kids...

It was nice to settle in to my bed with all the skidderoos for storytime after so many days without.  We finished our second in the series of Cornelia Funke’s Ghosthunters as well as several crazy selections chosen by our little Miss May.  Interesting that the boys will really sit through anything and given that Guga-roo was too lazy to go choose any himself tonite and Beasley came in late due to procrastinating with homework, she got all the glory.

I’m off to get the girl child tucked into our bed and I hear boys currently going crazy in their own.  Tuck-in’s and then Dancing With the Freakin’ Stars.  Go, Mel B and Max!  Whoooooo!  The end of a guilty pleasure… now I’ll be down to just my secret Lindt stash…

I Have Three Sides

Nov 15 2007

Published by Squirrel under 'nuggle and 'tories, all about 'dese kids...

Everybody joined in for stories at the same time last night.  Not unusual.  Everybody was calling to snuggle.  Miss May gets to snuggle all night long butcauses such a —-storm if anyone takes her place in the bed.  The way around this:  Guga-roo in my left armpit, Beasley Bean in my right and Miss MayBerry right on top (third side).  Outside of the little candy floss hairs that kept finding their way in my mouth it works out nicely.

The clever Science Verse hugely entertainingly written by Jon Scieszka and wonderful artwork by Lane Smith is quite popular.  It’s a funny and intelligent way to introduce some big scientific concepts such as Scientific Method and The Big Bang!

Story Time…

Nov 13 2007

Published by Squirrel under 'nuggle and 'tories

No matter what kind of day we’ve all had, one thing that remains consistent in our house is the bedtime reading routine. Since Beasley was a baby I have read most evenings.

Things were kind of staggered last night as I began with Miss May. The boys were busy with homework and on the computer. Her favourite of the ones she chose last night was “Red is Best”, story by Kathy Stinson and artwork by Robin Baird Lewis. Guga-roo seems to be drawn to the dinosaur section at the library and so we read about his fave prehistoric beast, Triceratops and then on to one of The Fly Guy series, “Shoo, Fly Guy” by Tedd Arnold. We have three of them and all the kids are totally into them. They are fun for me to read, too! We end nighttime reading with one of Beasley’s chapter books. We are into the second in the new Cornelia Funke, “Ghosthunters” series. These are so much fun and the younger kids enjoy them as well.

Despite having a fourth grader, I am still the chosen reader for our nighttime gatherings. Sometimes if I am not quite ready to get started, Beasley gets things going, reading to the younger siblings. It makes me happy though that Beasley Bean still loves to be read to, because it’s an activity that I love doing with the kids.

Most of our obstacles would melt away if, instead of cowering before them, we should make up our minds to walk boldly through them. -Orison Swett Marden

Think of yourself as on the threshold of unparalleled success. whole, clear, glorious life lies before you. Achieve! Achieve! - Andrew Carnegie

As a single footstep will not make a path on the earth, so a single thought will not make a pathway in the mind. To make a deep physical path, we walk again and again. To make a deep mental path, we must think over and over the kind of thoughts we wish to dominate our lives. -Henry David Thoreau
